VIDEO: Brain scans show dog breeds wired differently from one another
Gizmodo reports different breeds of dogs have slightly different brains from one another. The differences seem to be linked not just to the shape and size of the breed, but also the specific behaviors they were bred for. Harvard researcher Prof. Erin Hecht and her team researched the MRIs of 32 different breeds of healthy dogs. For instance, hunting breeds such as golden retrievers had key brain differences linked to coordination, eye movement, and navigation. The findings suggest that neuroscience could be used to refine the specialized tasks dogs are bred and trained for. This might sound a little goofy, but it’s also profound—our brains have been shaping the brains of another species. Prof. Erin Hecht Harvard University
