The York Area Sportsmen for Youth organization will soon sponsor its 21st youth field day.
The free event will be held June 3 on the grounds of the York Chapter No. 67 of the Izaak Walton League at 7131 Ironstone Hill Road, next to the town of Jacobus.
To participate, youngsters must be between the ages of 8 and 15. Registration and check-in begins at 7 a.m., and the event gets started at 8 a.m. Each youngster must be accompanied by an adult.
The organization will give each youngster a T-shirt, a free lunch and a prize at the end of the day. Stations will be set up for the day so that each group can move from one station to the next at 40-minute intervals. The stations include muzzle loading, archery, canoeing, .22 shooting, dog training, trapping, habitat instruction, trout fishing, trap shooting, turkey calling and the Cherokee Run (an obstacle course), among others.
Demonstrations and information will be provided by Pheasants Forever, the Wild Turkey Federation, the Ruffed Grouse Society, Ducks Unlimited, Susquehanna Waterfowlers, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, the Conewago Canoe Club and the sportsmen of York County.
The event is open to the first 200 youngsters who pre-register by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to York Area Sportsmen for Youth, P.O. Box 32, Dover, Pa., 17315.
Registration to the field day will be mailed back to participants.
