National fishing event headed to Susquehanna River

The RiverBassin Tournament Trail, the nation’s first kayak-fishing tournament series, will hold its national championship on the Susquehanna River at Shank’s Mare Outfitters near Wrightsville.

The event is set for Saturday, Oct 1, with the awards ceremony beginning at approximately 4 p.m.

Organizers are hoping the event will highlight the Susquehanna River as a premier smallmouth-bass, kayak-fishing area

The RiverBassin Tournament Trail will hold its national championship at Shank's Mare Outfitters on the Susquehanna River near Wrightsville. The event is set for Saturday, Oct. 1.

Kayak anglers will be fishing the river or its tributaries an hour north, south, east or west from the championship headquarters at Shank’s Mare.

Along with Shank’s Mare, local sponsors include The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, York County Convention & Visitors Bureau, The John Wright Restaurant, Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper, Brimmer License Service, The Columbia Fraternal Association and Susquehanna Heritage.

Shank’s Mare is located on the shores of the Susquehanna River, five miles south of Wrightsville on Route 624.
