PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Eagles are back in the mix for the up-for-grabs NFC East.
After three straight losses to losing teams, including consecutive blowouts, the Eagles (5-7) turned their season around with a stunning 35-28 win at New England. Now, they're almost in position to control their playoff hopes.
The New York Giants (5-7) have lost three in a row. The Redskins are 5-6 entering Monday night's game against Dallas (3-8). If the Cowboys beat Washington, the Eagles would win the division by winning out.
"We proved (Sunday) we are a good football team," coach Chip Kelly said. "But that doesn't matter this week because it's a brand new week and it has got to start back over again."
The Eagles needed an all-around team performance to beat Tom Brady and the Patriots (10-2), and they got it. The defense scored a touchdown, special teams had two scores and the offense got both of its TDs on third downs.
"Obviously, this division has been crazy thus far," said Sam Bradford, who played well after missing two games.
"After 12 weeks, we are still in the hunt to make the playoffs. Regardless of what your record is, obviously, we would like for it to be much better, but if you are still in the hunt at this point in the season, then you've got a shot."
Three of four at home: The Eagles play three of their final four games at home, starting with a visit from the Buffalo Bills (6-6) on Sunday.
They host the Arizona Cardinals (10-2) on Dec. 20 and the Redskins on Dec. 26 before finishing up with the Giants on Jan. 3.
Rex Ryan's Bills won't be an easy opponent. It'll be a big game for LeSean McCoy, who was upset when Kelly traded him in March. The two-time All-Pro running back is the franchise's leading rusher and has been looking forward to this game since the schedule was released.
"He's having a good year," Kelly said. "I know he's the focal point of their offense and we have to do a good job of team tackling against him because, obviously, seeing him in person and knowing him, he's going to make the first guy miss, sometimes the second guy miss.
"But we've got to stop the run against Buffalo. Our defense better get ready to play this week because we are playing against a really good back."
