DIRT TRACK RACING: Schatz bests Hodnett in battle of titans at Williams Grove

The rain at Williams Grove wiped out the second day of World of Outlaws racing on Saturday.

The Morgan Cup will now become part of the July Summer Nationals visit by the Outlaws.

On Friday at Williams Grove, it was a battle of the titans. World of Outlaws point leader Donny Schatz bested Williams Grove point leader Greg Hodnett for the win. Originally worth $8,000, the payout was upped to $10,000 after Saturday's rainout.

Spring Grove's Hodnett started second and took the lead from pole-sitter Schatz at the start of the non-stop 25-lap feature. It took until the 18th lap for Schatz to track down Hodnett in heavy lapped traffic. Schatz went on to score the win over Hodnett, with Brian Montieth in third. Aaron Ott and Paul McMahan completed the top five. Rounding out the top 10 were Stevie Smith, Dave Blaney, Joey Saldana, Shane Stewart and Daryn Pittman.

McClelland shines at Trailway: Brad McClelland won Friday's 358 sprint car event at Trailway.

McClelland had to use a borrowed engine to secure his 43rd career Trailway win in the 30-lap feature that was worth $1,200.

McClelland passed Cody Fletcher for the lead on the 23rd lap, one lap before Fletcher flipped his racer. Fawn Grove's Matt Campbell finished second, with Jeff Halligan in third. Doug Hammaker and Spring Grove's Dwight Leppo completed the top five. Rounding out the top 10 were Seth Kearchner, David Holbrook, Ashley Cappetta, Spring Grove's Zach Eucalano and York's Lucas Montgomery.

Steven Cox won the 270cc micro sprint event over Brian Marriott, Levi Peck, David Grube and Jim Still.

Matt Chronister was the limited stock winner and Neil Reamer won the classic car feature.

Franek takes URC victory: The URC 360 sprints raced at Georgetown, Delaware, on Friday, with Davie Franek picking up the win over Curt Michael. Josh Weller finished third, with Robbie Stillwaggon and Jason Clauss in the top five.

Other rainouts: In addition to the Williams Grove show, rain also wiped out Saturday programs at Susquehanna and Selinsgrove.
