Tony Stewart scores first-ever area win during All Star sprint race at BAPS Motor Speedway
- Tony Stewart won an All Star Circuit of Champions race at BAPS Motor Speedway on Sunday night.
- It was Stewart's first-ever victory on an area dirt track.
- The former NASCAR Cup champion earned $5,000 for his triumph.
Tony Stewart’s Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions visited BAPS Motor Speedway Sunday evening, and when the checkered flag fell it was the "Boss" himself standing in victory lane.
The former NASCAR Cup champion scored the $5,000 victory in the Justin Snyder Salute the Troops race at the northern York County facility, his first win in a 410 sprint car in the area.
“Anytime you can come to central Pennsylvania and beat the Pennsylvania Posse is pretty special. These are some of the best drivers in the country. We are all very excited to be up here right now,” Tony Stewart said after the race, according to allstarrace.com.
NASCAR standout Kyle Larson led the first two laps from his second starting spot, but then dropped from competition with mechanical problems. That turned the lead over to Paul McMahan, who led until the fifth starter, Stewart, took over the top spot on the 18th of 30 laps.
Stewart, who owns the All Star series, went on to win over eighth-starter Cale Conley, who edged out 13th-starter Lance Dewease for the runner-up spot. McMahan and Aaron Reutzel completed the top five.
Rounding out the top 10 were Carson Macedo, Ryan Smith, Chad Kemenah, Danny Dietrich (who came back from and early-race tangle) and Tim Shaffer.
Dover International Speedway was the presenting sponsor of the event, and Stewart’s prizes included a miniature version of the famed Monster Trophy that NASCAR winners received in Dover’s Sunoco Victory Lane.
Dave Grube won the make-up 305 sprint feature over Zach Newlin, John Scarborough, Kevin Darling and Jaremi Hanson.
In the regular event for the 305 sprints, it was Newlin the winner over Darren Miller, Alex Schantz, Kyle Smith and Rick Stief.
