York Nostalgia Weekend set to return in July

  • The 16th annual York US30 Dragway reunion will be held as part of the York Nostalgia Weekend.

  • July 7 is Dave Strickler Day, which pays tribute to the York Super Stock World Champion.

The 16th annual York US30 Dragway reunion will be held as part of the Second Edition York Nostalgia Weekend on Friday and Saturday, July 7-8.

The weekend’s festivities take place at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing and the historic Latimore Valley Fairgrounds.

Friday is Dave Strickler Day, which pays tribute to York driver Dave Strickler, a Super Stock World Champion during his storied career. His many contributions to the sport of drag racing will be highlighted and remembered during this special event.

The “Tokyo Rose” was a 1956 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery owned by George Cureton, who the car to the 1967 Stock Eliminator World Championship at the National Hot Rod Association World Finals at Tulsa, Oklahoma. The car is currently owned by Mike & Connie Szczepansky of Winona, Minnesota, and will be on display along with Cureton at York Nostalgia Weekend in July.

Another highlight will be the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the World Championships achieved by George Cureton and Ed Miller at the 1967 National Hot Rod Association World Finals at Tulsa, Oklahoma. Cureton and Miller will be on hand with individual displays of their achievements and race cars.

Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick will also be in attendance, along with one of his standout “Flying Farmer” entries.

Ohio “George” Montgomery, famous for his Malco gassers, and Al Joniec, renowned for his potent Ford race cars, will conduct an engine seminar from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday.  Bruce Larson, and his USA-1 Camaro, and Bob McClurg of Super Stock & Drag Illustrated fame, will also be on hand.

The annual Legion of Honor awards will be presented at 5 p.m. Friday to nine recipients, who will be announced on Feb. 10. Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the annual Glory Days cruise-in will take place at the Latimore Valley Fairgrounds.

The weekend concludes Sunday with the presentation of the York Nostalgia Nationals at Beaver Springs Dragway in Beaver Springs.
