York's Cory Haas officially has a new sprint-car ride for the 2017 central Pennsylvania dirt track season.
Haas will join John Trone and Trone Outdoor Motorsports next season, according to a news release. Haas expects to compete in 60-65 races, with most of the team's focus on events at Williams Grove and Lincoln speedways.
The newly-formed combination will also enter select events at Susquehanna and Port Royal speedways, with decisions to be made as the season progresses.
The long-standing team of Haas and York car owner Michael Barshinger parted ways after the season. It was recently announced that Lucas Wolfe will drive for Barshinger in 2017. At the Lincoln banquet, Haas vowed to be back racing in 2017 as well. That vow has now been fulfilled.
“I want to thank John Trone for this opportunity. I actually had a lot of people tell me to give John a call during the last few weeks," Haas said in the news release. "We spoke a few times and worked out a deal right away. I’m really excited for this opportunity."
Haas will now be backed by Eagle Steel, Trone Outdoor Advertising, Eagle Evergreens, Bricker’s, DMI, Bulldog Rear Ends, York PB Truss, Maxim Chassis, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, KSE, Wings Unlimited, QA1 Shocks, and Fully Injected Motorsports.
Haas finished fifth in the 2016 Williams Grove Speedway track championship hunt and also finished fourth in the 2016 Lincoln Speedway track championship competition. Haas earned 11 top-10 feature finishes at Lincoln alone, three of which came inside the top five. Haas took 14th in the 2016 Speedway Motors/Champion Racing Oil Central Pennsylvania Sprint Car Series.
“I think we have the potential to be successful in 2017,” Haas said in the news release. “It will take us a few weeks to get ourselves on the right track and get acclimated with each other, but I think once we are beyond that, we’ll be in great shape. I’m excited for the new year and what it has in store.”
Haas and Trone will activate their 2017 season during the Lincoln Speedway Icebreaker 30 on Saturday, Feb. 25. News regarding crew and other team details will be released in the near future.
