Lance Dewease captures Speedweek triumph at Port Royal

STAFF REPORT

Lance Dewease won the Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek feature at Port Royal Speedway Thursday evening.

Dewease's win was worth $7,000.

Lance Dewease will be among those honored this weekend at Port Royal Speedway during the running of the Tuscarora 50. The event will pay $50,000 to the winner.

The race at Port Royal marked the 11th time that Dewease has driven for Donnie Kreitz Jr. and the sixth time they have been in victory lane. Dewease has won all three Speedweek events that he has competed in.

Dewease started seventh and took the lead from Stevie Smith on the fourth of 30 laps and went on to the win. Smith finished second after swapping the position with Lucas Wolfe several times during the race. Wolfe, Danny Dietrich and Brent Marks completed the top five.

Rounding out the top 10 were Dave Blaney, Doug Esh, Aaron Ott, Brock Zearfoss and Alan Krimes.

Speedweek point leader Greg Hodnett of Spring Grove was involved in an early-race crash and now leads Dietrich by just one point in the Speedweek point race.

Williams Grove Speedway will play host to the “Crown Jewel” of Speedweek on Friday night when the Mitch Smith Memorial will be run. That race offers $10,000 to the winner.

Speedweek then returns to Port Royal on Saturday night before wrapping up Sunday night at Selinsgrove Speedway.
