A four-time 20-game winner and a three-time American League All-Star is the latest addition to York Area Sports Night.
Luis Tiant, who excelled for several major league teams from 1964 through 1982, was announced as a show guest on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
The Cuban-born right-hander compiled a 229-172 career major league record with the Indians, Twins, Red Sox, Yankees, Pirates and Angels. He is best known for his stint with the Red Sox from 1971 through 1978. He won 20 or more games three times during that stretch for Boston. He is a member of the Red Sox Hall of Fame.
Tiant, who is now 77, finished his career with 2416 strikeouts, a 3.30 ERA, 187 complete games and 49 shutouts in 3,486.1 innings.
He was well known for his unique delivery, when he turned away from home plate during his motion, in effect creating a hesitation pitch.
Tiant is the third announced guest for the local show, joining Juan Marichal and Dave Robinson. Marichal is a Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher, best known for his stint with the San Francisco Giants. Robinson belongs to both the College Football Hall of Fame and Pro Football Hall Fame. He excelled with the Penn State Nittany Lions and Green Bay Packers.
Show details: The 53rd annual York Area Sports Night is set for Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort and Conference Center.
The public celebrity reception is from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Tickets are $80 in advance and $100 at the door, if available.
From 6:15 p.m. until 7:45 p.m., there will be a an exclusive celebrity dinner with a live auction for celebrities, hosts, sponsors and guests.
