It was a great day for York-Adams League heavyweights on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the District 3 Wrestling Championships at the Giant Center in Hershey.
Central York junior Michael Wolfgram repeated as the 285-pound champion in Class 3-A, while Kennard-Dale's Tanner Harkins captured the 2-A crown at 285.
In addition, Bermudian Springs' Chase Dull captured the 2-A crown at 195 pounds.
Wolfgram, a junior, also finished fifth at 285 in 3-A as a freshman in 2016.
Wolfgram improved to 36-0 on the season. He's the only remaining unbeaten wrestler in the York-Adams League.
Wolfgram is also the only Y-A League wrestler to claim a District 3 Class 3-A championship in 2018.
He dominated his way through the 285-pound bracket, earning three pins before taking a 21-6, first-period technical fall over Kyler Wuestner of Lower Dauphin in the championship match. That marked the 100th win of Wolfgram's career.
Harkins, a senior, defeated Boiling Springs junior Damon James in the 285-pound, 2-A title match, 5-2. The Rams standout earned his way into the title match with 11-1 and 6-4 decisions. Harkins improved to 27-1. James fell to 33-11.
Dull earned his 2-A 195-pound title with a 5-2 decision of Newport's Brady Herr. Dull, a junior, improved to 33-3. Herr, a senior, fell to 29-4. Dull had earned 1-0 and 15-0 decisions en route to the title match.
Three local 3-A runners-up: The local league produced three second-place finishers in 3-A — Northeastern's Cole Wilson at 113, Spring Grove's Dalton Rohrbaugh at 126 and Spring Grove's Anthony Hinson at 160.
Wilson, a sophomore, lost in the 113 final, 2-0, to Manheim Central sophomore Will Betancourt. The only scoring in the match came on Betancourt's third-period reversal. Wilson fell to 34-3, while Betancourt improved to 32-0. Wilson finished third in the district as a freshman at 106. Betancourt won the 106-pound title last season.
Rohrbaugh dropped a 6-2 decision in the 126 final to Chris Wright. Rohrbaugh, a senior, now has three second-place finishes and one championship in district action. Rohrbaugh is 40-2. Wright improved to 44-1.
Hinson, a junior, lost a 3-0 decision in the 160 final to Solanco senior A.J. Wilson. Hinson is 38-4, while Wilson improved to 37-1.
Other 3-A wrestlers to make states: New Oxford's Timothy Uhler beat Dover's Matthew Rodriguez in the 113-pound third-place match, 1-0.
In the 132 third-place match, Dallastown's Dalton Daugherty dropped a 5-4 decision to Manheim Central's Zack Zeamer.
In the 138 third-place match, Carlisle's Colton Jumper defeated Gettysburg's Joseph Pecaitis, 7-3.
In the 152 third-place match, Gettysburg's Dylan Reinert decisioned Chambersburg's Drake Brenize, 3-2.
In the 160 third-place match, South Western's Ethan Baney beat Dallastown's Jarrett Feeney, 4-2.
In the 195 third-place match, Central Dauphin's Mitchell Talbott downed New Oxford's Darrick Rudisill, 14-5.
All 3-A wrestlers who finished in the top four earned berths into the PIAA 3-A state tournament.
