Spring Grove's Dalton Rohrbaugh 3rd at national event
- Rohrbaugh finished third in the NHSCA National Tournament in the 106-pound sophomore weight class.
- The result was Rohrbaugh's second bronze medal finish after taking third at PIAA AAA state tournament.
- He finished 7-1 on the weekend, including making it to the quarterfinal round of championship bracket.
Spring Grove sophomore Dalton Rohrbaugh capped off a strong wrestling season with another top result over the weekend.
Taking part in the National High School Coaches Association National Wrestling Championships in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Rohrbaugh finished with a bronze medal in the 106-pound sophomore division. Taking on Drew Bennett from Iowa, Rohrbaugh needed overtime to earn the victory. He recorded a takedown in the OT and then scored a near fall, giving himself the 9-5 victory.
It was the first tournament that Rohrbaugh has competed in since he captured third place at 106 pounds in the PIAA Class AAA state wrestling tournament a few weeks ago.
Rohrbaugh made it all the way to the quarterfinal round of the championship bracket before losing to Texas' Isaiah Delgado, who wound up as the tournament runner-up. That loss sent Rohrbaugh to the consolation bracket. Once there, he won three consecutive bouts to secure a spot in the third-place match, which he went on to win.
Overall, Rohrbaugh went 7-1 in the three-day event, including one pin, one technical fall and one major decision victory along the way.
The seven wins in the tournament gave Rohrbaugh 50 for the year. The 43-2 mark he accumulated during the school season already set a school record for most wins by a sophomore. His state bronze medal was also a best-ever achievement for a Spring Grove sophomore.
