Longtime Dallastown coach Ray Geesey will soon have his name attached to a York County spring sports institution.

On Friday, April 27, Dallastown High School will host the 32nd Dallastown Track and Field Invitational.

This will not be the final year of the longtime meet. This will, however, be the final year under its current name.

Starting in 2019, the meet will be renamed the Ray Geesey Track and Field Invitational after the man who started the event in 1987.

Ray Geesey was Dallastown’s head boys' and girls' track and field coach for 16 seasons, from 1980 to 1994, and then again in 1998. During that time, his combined record was 197-55, and he was voted the league coach of the year 10 times. His boys' teams were league champions five times and his girls' teams won seven league titles and a District 3 team championship in 1984.

Geesey coached numerous individual league champions and many District 3 and PIAA qualifiers. He was the coach of three members of Dallastown’s current coaching staff, and he coached many former Dallastown coaches. Current Dallastown head coach Neil Gutekunst had Geesey as a track coach, a junior high football coach, a youth baseball coach and a social studies teacher.

A small ceremony will be held at this year’s meet honoring Geesey and announcing the new name.

Events start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. The new name will be announced before the national anthem at approximately 5 p.m.
