Y-A track & field athletes primed to mine district gold
- York-Adams athletes are seeded No. 1 in 12 different District 3 track and field events.
- The Eastern York girls' team boasts three No. 1 seeds in the Class 2-A field.
- The district event is set for Friday and Saturday at Shippensburg University.
If the seeds hold true, York-Adams League athletes will bring home a number of gold medals from the District 3 Track and Field Championships this weekend at Seth Grove Stadium at Shippensburg University.
The event starts at 2 p.m. Friday and will resume at 9 a.m. Saturday.
In all, Y-A athletes are seeded No. 1 in a dozen different events.
The league looks especially strong in the Class 2-A girls' field.
Eastern York, which claimed the York-Adams Division II team championship this spring, has three No. 1 seeds in 2-A girls: junior Hannah Myers in the 400 dash (59.97 seconds); junior Taylor Currier in the triple jump (36 feet, 5 1/2 inches); and senior Ashley Kerr in the shot put (40-2).
In addition, Golden Knights junior Maddie McLain is the No. 2 seed in both the 1,600 run (5:16.80) and 3,200 run (11:06.42), while Kerr is the No. 3 seed in the discus (110-1).
Division III champion Fairfield and Delone Catholic also look very strong in 2-A girls.
Fairfield also has three No. 1 seeds: 4x100 relay (50.1), 4x400 relay (4:13.3) and junor Cierra Phillips in the pole vault (11-0). The Green Knights also have five No. 2 seeds.
Delone, meanwhile has one top seed in sophomore Julianna Malesky in the high jump (5-3 1/4). The Squirettes also have three No. 2 seeds and four No. 3 seeds.
In 2-A boys, D-III champion Bermudian Springs looks formidable, led by Ryan Curfman, who is seeded No. 1 in the 200 dash (:22.82). The Eagles also have three No. 2 seeds and two No. 3 seeds.
In addition, Delone junior Seth Leonard is seeded No. 1 in the 2-A javelin at 174-3.
In 3-A girls, the Y-A League has one top seed: Red Lion junior Madisen Kling in the discus (144-10). Dover junior Emily Eckard is seeded No. 2 in that event at 133-6. The only other Y-A athletes to earn top-three seeds in 3-A girls are New Oxford senior Madison Smith, who seeded No. 2 in the javelin (145-3), and Spring Grove senior Nathalie Elliott, who is seeded third in the pole vault (12-0).
In 3-A boys, the Y-A League has one top-seeded individual and one top-seeded relay. West York senior Luke Hoffman is seeded No. 1 in discus at 193-3. The South Western 4x100 relay team also earned a No. 1 seed at 42.49 seconds. The only other Y-A athlete to earn a top-three seed in 3-A boys is York High junior Khalid Dorsey in the 200 dash (22.14).
