SOFTBALL: Five-run, fourth-inning outburst helps Spring Grove rally for win vs. West York


Spring Grove exploded for five runs in the fourth inning to erase a 2-1 deficit en route to a 7-4 softball triumph at West York on Wednesday.


Spring Grove improved to 13-6 overall and finished 11-4 in York-Adams Division I, good for a second-place finish behind unbeaten Central York.

Bryn Sporer (two hits, homer, three RBIs, run), Briana Dicandeloro (two hits, two runs), Olivia Lillich (two hits, triple, two RBIs, run) and Hannah Gartrell (two hits, triple, RBI) paced Spring Grove's attack. Sara Jones pitched a complete game to get the win.

Nat Hirn (three hits, run), Paige Weekly (two hits, triple, RBI), Hannah Harlacher (two hits, RBI) and Breanna Harvey (homer) led West York.


Kennard-Dale 14, Middletown 1 (5 innings): At Fawn Grove, the Rams improved to 15-0 overall behind a big day from Jaedyn McKeon (4 for 4, homer, triple, three RBIs, three runs). Lexie Kopko pitched a complete-game three-hitter, striking out 11. At the plate, Kopko was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and an RBI. K-D's other hitting leaders were Crystal Mullins (two hits, two runs), Amber Belt (two hits, two RBIs, run), Rosella Stike (two hits, two RBIs, run), Aliza Devoe (double, two RBIs) and Megan Thomas (double, RBI)

Red Lion 12, Red Land 2 (6 innings): At Red Land, the Lions piled up 15 hits and Taylor Radziewicz pitched a complete game, striking out six without a walk, to get the win. Radziewicz also had two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored at the plate. Red Lion's other hitting leaders were Hayley Taylor (three hits, two RBIs, run), Kaitlyn Collins (three hits, RBI, run), Hailey Inguanti (two hits, three RBIs, two runs), Makenna Michaels (two hits, two runs) and Dalia Schaszberger (two runs, two walks, RBI).

New Oxford 4, Susquehannock 3 (8 innings): At New Oxford, the Warriors led 3-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but the home team scored once in the sixth, once in the seventh and once in the eighth to win it. Susquehannock's Kari Cox homered and doubled and drove in all three Warrior runs. Kendra Gemmill pitched 7 1/3 innings and allowed three earned runs, but took the loss. 

Shippensburg 9, Northeastern 6 (8 innings): At Manchester, Shippensburg scored three runs in the top of the eighth to earn the nonleague win. Jiselle Costano (three hits, two RBIs, run), Haley Updegraff (two hits, two runs) and Nikki Stone (two hits, RBI, run) paced the Bobcats' offense. Belle Bortner pitched a complete game and allowed two earned runs, but took the loss. Northeastern fell to 11-6. Shippensburg is 12-3.

Littlestown 4, York Suburban 3: At Suburban, the Trojans' Sarah Hartinger pitched a complete game, but took the loss, despite six strikeouts. She also had two hits and a walk at the plate.
