Y-A sending 11-team contingent to District 3 softball

The dream of winning a District 3 softball championship is still a possible reality for 11 York-Adams League teams.

The district pairings were released on Thursday and action gets started on Tuesday. This is the first year that the softball playoffs are divided into six classes.

Central's Erin Cabry reacts after connecting for a double against Dallastown, Monday, May 8, 2017. The Panthers are the No. 3 seed in the District 3 Class 6-A playoffs.

Three Y-A teams garnered No. 2 seeds — league champion Central York (21-1) in 6-A, Division III champion Kennard-Dale (15-3) in 4-A and Fairfield (11-7) in 2-A.

6-A: In the 10-team 6-A bracket, two Y-A teams made the field. The Panthers got a first-round bye. Dallastown (11-8), meanwhile, earned the 10th-and-final seed and will travel to No. 7 Warwick (13-6) at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The winner of that game will travel to Central at 4:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals on Thursday, May 25. The top three 6-A teams make the PIAA playoffs.

5-A: Spring Grove (15-5) grabbed the No. 5 seed in the 16-team 5-A bracket. At 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Rockets will play host to No. 12 Garden Spot (11-8) in a first-round battle. In another first-round tussle at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, No. 13 New Oxford (12-8) visits No. 4 Lower Dauphin (16-3). The top five 5-A teams advance to states.

4-A: The Rams get a first-round bye on Tuesday in the 10-team 4-A field, as does No. 4 Eastern York (12-5)  and No. 6 Littlestown (13-7). No. 10 West York (8-12) travels to No. 7 Northern Lebanon (12-8) at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. In the quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 25, K-D will play host to the West York-Northern Lebanon winner, Eastern will play host to No. 5 Bishop McDevitt (13-7) and Littlestown will travel to No. 3 East Pennsboro (15-2). The top three finishers will make the state tournament.

3-A: Division IV champion Delone Catholic (13-5) is the only Y-A team to make the six-team 3-A playoffs. In the first round at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, the No. 4 Squirettes will play host to No. 5 Tulpehocken (14-6). The top two 3-A finishers will head to states.

2-A: Fairfield will play host to a familiar foe in 2-A semifinals on Thursday, May 25 — No. 3 York Catholic (8-8). The game is set for 4:30 p.m. Both teams are in Y-A Division IV. Only the District 3 1-A winner will advance to states from the four-team 1-A bracket.
