SOFTBALL: Central York wins outright Division I title
The Central York softball dynasty has earned another crown.
The Panthers defeated Spring Grove 10-0 in a five-inning, mercy-rule contest on Thursday to clinch the outright York-Adams Division I championship. Central finished 14-1 in the division and is 19-1 overall.
The Panthers have now won at least a share of the D-I title for five straight years. Five of those were outright championships. Central has either won or shared the D-I crown eight times since 2006.
Rachel Butler pitched four innings of two-hit shutout ball to get the win. Courtney Coppersmith struck out three batters in a shutout fifth.
Coppersmith was also 2 for 4 at the plate, including a double, with two RBIs and two runs scored. Erin Cabry added two hits a run scored for the winners while Kara Lordan had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Butler and Lorna Colberg added doubles.
Susquehannock 12, West York 1: At West York, the Warriors rolled to the win and clinched the York-Adams Division II outright title in the process. Susquehannock improved to 15-3 overall and finished 11-3 in the division. No other details were reported.
Dallastown 19, New Oxford 0 (3 innings): At New Oxford, Lyndee Anders led the Wildcats by hitting two triples and one double. Also for the Wildcats, Jaelynn Harbold doubled and threw a three-inning no-hitter to pick up the win. Melanie Grant doubled. Dallastown finished 13-2 in York-Adams Division I action and improved to 16-2 overall.
Eastern York 5, York Suburban 2: At Suburban, Kirsten Grove (two hits, RBI, run), Katie Lehman (two hits, run) and Ashton Evans (two hits) paced the Golden Knights attack. Riley Duraski went the distance to get the win. Suburban was led by Zoe Prats (three hits, run), Alexis Jury (two hits) and Madeline Peters (two hits).
Hanover 16, York Catholic 1 (3 Innings): At Hanover, Sara Durika led the Hawkettes by picking up the win on the mound, striking out five and walking one. Durika also doubled.
