SOCCER: Dallastown boys edge Red Lion on Kaden Kashner's goal
In a game that could be pivotal for both teams' District 3 playoff hopes, Dallastown grabbed a 1-0 boys' soccer victory over rival Red Lion on Thursday afternoon.
Kaden Kashner provided the game's only scoring in a game played at Dallastown.
The Wildcats improved to 7-3-1. Red Lion dropped to 5-3-3.
The two teams entered the contest at No. 11 and No. 12 in the District 3 Class 4-A power ratings. Only the top eight teams in the final power ratings will make the district 4-A field.
Only games played through Saturday, Oct. 31, will count in the final power ratings.
OTHER BOYS' SOCCER
Northeastern 2, South Western 0: At Manchester, the Bobcats kept rolling behind two goals from Alex Afata. Jaysen Cook had two assists. First-place Northeastern improved to 9-1.
York Catholic 1, Fairfield 0: At York, the first-place Fighting Irish improved to 10-0-1 in D-III action. Colin Smith scored, assisted by Riley Santiago, at the 3:50 mark of the second half for the game's only score. John Weisser had two saves in the shutout.
New Oxford 3, Gettysburg 2 (OT): At Gettysburg, the Colonials rallied from a 2-0 hole for the overtime victory. Miguel Salazar had two New Oxford goals, including the game-winner. Ray Orozco also scored for the Colonials. Aaron Vasquez and Liam Christianson had Gettysburg's goals.
Central York 2, Spring Grove 0: At Central York, Grant McGlaughlin led the Panthers to the D-I win by scoring one goal and adding one assist. Ethan Firth scored one goal, while Gavin Farling added one assist.
York Suburban 2, West York 0: At Suburban, the Trojans improved to 8-2-0 in D-II action. West York fell to 5-5.
York Catholic 3, Fairfield 2: At Fairfield, the Lady Irish handed Fairfield its first loss of the season in a D-III showdown. Bernie Schintz scored on a second-half penalty kick to break a 2-2 tie. It was the second goal of the game for Schintz. Sydney Mentzer also scored for the Irish. Honey Strosnider and Therese Phelan scored for Fairfield, which dropped to 7-1-1. York Catholic is now 8-2-0.
Northeastern 1, South Western 1: At Hanover, Megan Elzinga's goal provided the only scoring in the game. Northeastern improved to 6-4-0 in D-I. South Western fell to 2-9.
Central York 6, Spring Grove 2: At Spring Grove, the Panthers kept their unbeaten season going with a win vs. the Rockets. The Division I-leading Panthers are now 11-0-0. Spring Grove fell to 5-6. Central has now outscored its opposition, 49-7.
Dallastown 1, Red Lion 0 (OT): At Red Lion, the visitors scored in overtime to improve to 9-2-0 in D-I. Red Lion fell to 7-4-0. Both teams are battling to make the District 3 Class 4-A playoffs. Dallastown entered the game at No. 7 in the district 4-A power ratings, while Red Lion was ninth. Only the top eight teams in the final 4-A power ratings will make the district field.
Biglerville 7, Hanover 1: At Biglerville, Jayden Slonaker (three goals), Brylee Rodgers (goal, two assists) and Kate Woolson (two goals) paced Biglerville to the D-III win.
