SOCCER: Susquehannock captures key early triumph

The Susquehannock boys’ soccer team won the first of two pivotal meetings with York-Adams League Division II rival Gettysburg on Tuesday, 1-0.

The Warriors only needed Colton Mumley’s 35th-minute goal to earn the road victory. They then held on despite a late flurry of chances by Gettysburg.

The Adams County Warriors finished with more shots on goal, 6-5, and corners, 7-4, but couldn’t solve Susquehannock keeper Aaron Bilbie, who stopped everything that came his way, making five saves.

BOYS' SOCCER

Central York 4, South Western 0: At Central York, Pierrce Miller led the Panthers to the victory by scoring one goal and adding two assists. Alex McNair, Carter Luckenbaugh, and Evan Smeltzer each scored one goal apiece, while Zach Mummert and Nick Starr each picked up one assist.

York Suburban 3, Kennard-Dale 1: At Suburban, after playing a scoreless first half, the Trojans outscored the Rams, 3-1, in the second half to grab the win. Nick Bowman scored a goal for Suburban, while goalie Seth Orndorf had 13 saves. K-D’s Chance Logue scored the team’s only goal, while keeper Jacob Ingo made 16 saves.

Red Lion 3, Northeastern 0: At Northeastern, Ben Warner scored a pair of goals and teammate Michael Moffit added the other for the Lions. Brock Gould registered a pair of saves in goal to record the shut out.

West York 2, Eastern York 0: At Wrightsville, the Bulldogs won by shutout. No other details were reported.

GIRLS' SOCCER

Central York 2, South Western 0: At South Western, Lynsey Nicholas broke a scoreless tie in the second half off an assist from Breanna Sgrignoli to lead the Panthers. Nicholas would return the favor later in the half, as Sgrignoli scored Central’s other goal. Rachel Szcypinski recorded three saves in earning the shutout in goal.

Red Lion 2, Northeastern 0: At Red Lion, Tessa Engles and Alyssa Adams scored goals for the hosts. Teammate Abby Castle assisted on Engles’ goal and goalie Madisen Kling made six saves for the shutout.

York Suburban 3, Kennard-Dale 1: At Fawn Grove, the Trojans took a 1-0 lead into halftime and then expanded it in the second half to secure the road win. Roma Williams, Kirsten Daugherty and Paige Bulgarelli all scored for the Trojans. Justine Sommer had the only goal for K-D.

Susquehannock 3, Gettysburg 0: At Glen Rock, the York County Warriors dominated the visitors, taking a 1-0 lead into the halftime break and then adding two more in the second half. Carly Attig scored twice, while Emma Lonas had a goal and assist. Susquehannock outshot Gettysburg, 14-2. Caton Raffensperger made 11 saves in goal for the Adams County Warriors.

Eastern York 1, West York 0: At West York, Haley Spyker scored in the first half and the goal held up as the winner for the Golden Knights. Sydney Kelly recorded six saves in net to earn the shutout.

Spring Grove 7, New Oxford 4: At Spring Grove, Abby Erlemeier scored three goals and Anna Morton added two scores for the Rockets. Emily Myers posted a hat trick of her own for New Oxford.

Lancaster County Christian 4, Christian School of York 3 (OT): At Christian School of York, Kendis Butler led the Crusaders with two goals. Mekenzie Smith scored a CSY goal, while Nicole Shelton picked up one assist. CSY's Kennedy Hofer made 17 stops in goal.
