Three York-Adams golfers each just three shots off lead after first day of PIAA tournament

  • The PIAA Individual Golf Championships are being held at Heritage Hills Golf Resort.
  • Central York's Carson Bacha and Spring Grove's Karl Frisk each shot 76 in Class 3-A.
  • Littlestown's Devin Peart also shot 76 in Class 2-A.
  • All three local golfers are tied for sixth and three shots off the lead.

Three York-Adams League golfers are still very much in contention after the first day of the PIAA Individual Golf Championships.

Karl Frisk

In a rather amazing coincidence, Central York junior Carson Bacha, Spring Grove sophomore Karl Frisk and Littlestown senior Devin Peart each fired a 5-over-par 76 during a difficult scoring day at Heritage Hills Golf Resort and Conference Center on Mount Rose Avenue in Springettsbury Township.

Bacha and Frisk are in an eight-way tie for sixth in Class 3-A, while Peart is in a three-way tie for sixth in Class 2-A. Each member of the local trio is three shots off the lead in his respective class heading into Tuesday's second-and-final round.

Bacha is coming off championships in the York-Adams League, District 3 Class 3-A and the PIAA Eastern Regional Class 3-A tournaments.

The final four holes at Heritage Hills proved to be a struggle for all three area golfers. Bacha went 3 over during that stretch, while Frisk was 5 over and Peart was 2 over.

Carson Bacha

The leaders among the 3-A boys at 73 are Palmer Jackson of Franklin Regional, Patrick Sheehan of Central Bucks West and Andrew Wallace of Harriton. Pittsburgh Central Catholic's Jimmy Myers is fourth at 74, while Holy Ghost Prep's Liam Heart is fifth at 75.

William Mirams of Notre Dame East Stroudsburg leads the 2-A boys' field at 73, while Jack Mangene of St. Joseph's Academy is alone in second at 74. There is a three-way tie for third at 75 that includes Riverside's Skyler Fox, Scranton Prep's M.J. Stivala and Schuylkill Valley's Jack Lynam.

The 3-A girls' leader is Caroline Wrigley of North Allegheny at 2-over 74, followed by Chambersburg's Mary Kate Norcross at 75 and Uniontown's Danae Rugola at 76. There is a two-way tie for fifth at 77 between South Fayette's Carolina McConnell and Conestoga's Samantha Yao at 78.

Devin Peart

North East's Lydia Swan has a four-stroke edge in the 2-A girls' tournament after a 2-over 74. Pittsburgh North Catholic's Maddie Smitkco is second at 78. Three golfers are tied for third at 80: Central Valley's Kiaria Porter, Rockwood's Vileska Gelpi and Greensburg Central Catholic's Abby Zambruno.
