Dallastown came agonizingly close to advancing to the District 3 Class 3-A girls' tennis championship match.

The third-seeded Wildcats lost to second-seeded Hershey on Wednesday afternoon at the Hershey Racquet Club in a semifinal contest, 3-2.

Christie Friedrich stormed back for a thrilling 4-6, 6-4 7-6 (5) win at No. 1 singles for Dallastown. The Wildcats also got a straight-sets win from their No. 2 doubles team of Lindsey Shaeffer and Bri Smith, 6-2, 7-6 (5).

Madi Reed nearly came up with the third point that Dallastown needed for the team win, but ultimately lost her No. 2 singles contest, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-4.

Another York-Adams team also fell in the District 3 girls' tennis semifinals, but this one wasn't nearly as close.

The third-seeded Delone Catholic Squirettes were swept by second-seeded Lancaster Catholic in Class 2-A action, 5-0. The Crusaders won each of the matches in straight sets.

Both Dallastown and Delone can still advance to PIAA state compeitition with a win in Thursday's third-place matches back at HRC.

Dallastown will take on fourth-seeded Exeter at 2 p.m. Exeter dropped its semifinal on Wednesday to top-seeded Manheim Township, 3-0.

Delone, meanwhile, will take on fifth-seeded Berks Catholic at 11:30 a.m. Berks Catholic lost its semifinal to top-seeded Wyomissing on Wednesday, 5-0.

VOLLEYBALL

Harrisburg 3, York High 0: At Harrisburg, the Cougars won, 25-19, 25-19, 25-15. For the Bearcats, Wilmarie Ortiz led the visitors with five kills. Also for York, Jae Fitch and Dy'Aysia Gee each had five aces, while Natalie Seguinot had seven assists. York High won the JV match, 25-16, 22-25, 15-7.

West Perry 3, Bermudian Springs 0: At West Perry, the Mustangs won, 25-14, 25-20, 25-19. Kyleigh Kutz led the Eagles with five kills. Teammate Hailey Madara had 14 assists. Bermudian won the JV match, 25-14, 25-19.

Eastern York 3, Northeastern 1: At Wrightsville, the Golden Knights won, 21-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-12. Madison Anslow led the home team with eight kills and five blocks. Also for Eastern, Brooke LaCesa had six kills and five digs, Liz Pyles had 25 assists, seven digs and three kills and Kierstin Grove had 13 kills. For the Bobcats, Deja Lee had 13 kills and eight digs, while Natalie Martin had 10 digs and 23 assists, Courtney Klinger had nine kills and three digs. Eastern won the JV match, 2-1.

Northeastern 3, Kennard Dale 2: At Fawn Grove on Tuesday, the visitors rallied for a 23- 25, 25-18, 25-15, 16-25, 15-10 victory. The Bobcats were led by Deja Lee (13 digs, seven kills, four aces), Sekayla Richardson (five kills, 13 digs), Courtney Klinger (nine kills) and Natalie Martin (23 assists, four kills, five digs, three aces). K-D's stat leaders were: Megan Gereny (35 digs), Olivia Stauffer (eight kills) and Claire Glackin (17 assists, 10 digs).
