PREP ROUNDUP: York-Adams champs from Red Lion, Eastern York ousted in District 3 semis
The York-Adams League girls’ tennis singles champions suffered semifinal defeats on Monday in District 3 action at the Hempfield Rec Center in Lancaster County.
Red Lion freshman Lexi Lakatosh saw her season end with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Penn Manor’s Catherine Rabatin in Class 3-A action. Rabatin is the top seed in the event, as well as the defending champion. Lakatosh came in seeded No. 4.
In the other 3-A semifinal, Carlisle’s Sarah Guistwite, the No. 2 seed, beat Muhlenberg’s Jennifer Manta, the No. 3 seed, 1-6, 6-1, 6-1
In Class 2-A, Eastern York junior Evelyn Whiteside dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Berks Catholic’s Rebekah Schnatz. Whiteside came in seeded No. 2, while Schnatz was seeded No. 3. Whiteside has won the past two York-Adams 2-A championships.
In the other 2-A semifinal, Lancaster Catholic’s Anna Millen, seeded No. 4, upset East Pennsboro’s Ava Lewis, seeded No. 1, 6-1, 6-1. Lewis was the 2-A runner-up at last year’s district singles event.
Rabatin and Guistwite will face off for the 3-A title at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday back at the Hempfield Rec Center. At the same time and place, Millen and Schnatz will meet for the 2-A crown.
York Catholic 3, Bermudian Springs 0: At York Catholic, Shannon Toomey (12 kills) led the Lady Irish to the York-Adams Division III win, 25-15, 25-10, 25-14. Also for YC, Hope Leavy-Gaskins had 10 kills and three digs, Lindsey Beck had 27 assists and four kills and Drew Kile had eight digs and three aces. YC improved to 9-0 in the division.
South Western 3, Dover 0: At Dover, the Mustangs won the York-Adams Division I match, 25-5, 25-16, 25-5. Emma Filipovits led the Mustangs with nine kills and 11 digs. Also for South Wesern, Makayla Dyson had 15 assists, eight digs and four kills, while Kya Rebert had six kills and three digs. South Western improve to 6-2 in the division.
Dallastown 3, Red Lion 0: At Red Lion, the Wildcats won the York-Adams Division I match, 25-20, 25-14, 25-9. Sofia Okionley led the Wildcats with 11 kills and seven digs. Also for Dallastown, Lexy Bloss had 12 kills, while Izzy Ream had 34 assists and 10 digs. For the Lions, Bhrooke Axe had seven kills and five blocks, while Riley Good had 18 assists and four digs and Alysa Dennison had 17 digs and three kills.
Delone 3, Littlestown 0: At Littlestown, the Squirettes cruised, 26-24, 25-15, 25-11, to improve to 7-2 in York-Adams Division III. Littlestown fell to 5-3. The Delone leaders were Shalee Clabaugh (16 digs), Audrey Sell (10 assists, five digs), Mckenna Mummert (seven kills, five digs), Holly Neiderer (12 kills) and Olivia Snyder (14 assists, 13 digs).
Gettysburg 3, New Oxford 1: At Gettysburg, the Warriors triumphed, 25-16, 25-16, 20-25, 25-14. Gettysburg was led by Whitney Smyth (seven kills), Kendell Grossman (seven kills), Maddie Yingling (19 digs) and Shayna Davis (17 digs, 14 assists).
Dallastown 11, Dover 0: At Dover, Lilly Cantabene registered a hat trick to lead the Wildcats to the York-Adams cross-over victory. Ava Markel, Camryn Eveler and Hailey Tunno each scored two goals, while Erin Bemisderfer and Brooklyn Ferguson each scored one goal. Dallastown improved to 9-0-0 in Division I.
New Oxford 3, Central York 2 (OT): At New Oxford, the Colonials edged the Panthers in an overtime battle of York-Adams powers. New Oxford improved to 7-0 in Division II action, while the Panthers fell to 5-2 in D-I. Morgan Sauter found the back of the net in the OT. Carrie Bair picked up an assist on the game-winner, while teammate Ally Mathis scored two earlier goals. For the Panthers, Grace Harrold and Emilee Myers each scored one goal.
Bermudian Springs 4, Littlestown 0: At York Springs, Melanie Beall's hat trick helped Bermudian improve to 9-0 in York-Adams Division III.
Biglerville 2, Gettysburg 0: At Biglerville, Natalie Showaker scored both goals in the Canners' win. Biglerville is now 6-1-1 in Division IV. Gettysburg is 5-3-1 in Division III.
Dallastown 3, York High 0: At Dallastown, the Wildcats got goals by Sam Patton, Joe Thomas and Joe Hanuska in the York-Adams Division I win. Dallastown moved to 6-2-1 and has gone 6-0-1 since dropping its first two games of the season. The Wildcats also moved to No. 8 in the District 3 Class 3-A power ratings. When the final power ratings are released, the top eight teams will make the district 3-A field. York High is 0-9.
West York 2, Eastern York 1: At West York, the Bulldogs rallied from a 1-0 hole to improve to 5-4 in D-II. Ben Geller scored the game-winner in the second half. Jarred Russell also scored for West York.
Gettysburg 7, Kennard-Dale 0: At Gettysburg, Maddy Gaydon scored two goals to help Gettysburg move to 8-0 in York-Adams Division II action. Lora Bertram, Alivia Colgan, Anna Crawford, Lydia Floreck and Lily Winkleman also scored.
Dallastown 10, York High 0: At Dallastown, the Wildcats improved 7-2 in York-Adams Division I action with the easy victory.
BOYS' CROSS COUNTRY
Delone Catholic 21, Biglerville 38: At Biglerville, the Squires finished at 5-1 in D-III action. Aden Davis led the Squires with a season-best time of 19 minutes flat. He was followed by Ryan Murphy and Liam Allen.
GIRLS' CROSS COUNTRY
Delone Catholic 15, Biglerville 50: At Biglerville, Julia O'Brien led Delone with a personal-best time of 20:07. She was followed by teammates Becky Hernandez and Samantha Smith. The Squirettes finished at 5-1 in D-III.
