Northeastern High School graduate Amanda Bentz has been named a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American.
She is one of just 54 female student-athletes to be honored from across the nation.
The midfielder boasted a grade-point average of 4.14 and was ranked second in her class, according to her coach at Northeastern, Diana Collier.
Bentz was also standout on the field during her Northeastern soccer career. She was a two-year captain, a four-year starter, an all-state performer and the Co-York-Adams Division I Coaches’ Player of the Year.
Bentz played defensive midfield during her senior year and led the defensive-minded Bobcats with nine goals and 11 assists. She finished her Northeastern career with 37 goals and a program-record 59 assists.
She plans to play college soccer at the NCAA Division III level at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island.
“She’s a creative player with great vision and could play the final ball and could create scoring chances for other players,” said Collier, who nominated Bentz for the award. “This year we pulled her further away from the ball, and to show her talent and character, she didn’t complain and still led the team in goals and assists.
Collier also lauded Bentz for her volunteer work at the York Rescue Mission and with a vacation Bible school and said “she’s the kind of kid that every kid should aspire to be.”
The United Soccer Coaches was formerly the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Bentz and the other honorees will be formally recognized during the United Soccer Coaches All-American Luncheon in conjunction with the group’s 2019 convention from Jan. 9-13 in Chicago. More details on the event will be released at a later date.
