It was a little closer this time, but the West York girls' basketball team still got the measure of Greencastle on Tuesday night.
The ninth-seeded Bulldogs (16-7) captured a 43-38 road victory over the eighth-seeded Blue Devils (18-6). It's the second time the Bulldogs beat the Devils this season. The earlier victory came by a 52-24 margin in late December.
West York now faces the daunting task of taking on No. 1 seed Harrisburg (19-3) at 6:30 Friday night on the Cougars' home court. Harrisburg won its district opener over No. 16 seed Milton Hershey, 57-44.
The Bulldogs had three players with 10 points each — Makenna Hoffman, Catie McCarty and Paige Weekly. The win clinched a state berth for West York.
New Oxford 59, Muhlenberg 43: At New Oxford, the third-seeded Colonials improved to 20-6 with a win over 14th-seeded Muhlenberg, which fell to 14-9. New Oxford now advances to the District 3 5-A quarterfinals against sixth-seeded Twin Valley (19-5), which edged 11th-seed Palmyra on Tuesday, 50-46. The win clinched a state berth for the Colonials.
Pequea Valley 48, Hanover 31: At Hanover, the Nighthawks saw their season end with a loss to the Braves in the opening round of the District 3 3-A tournament. Fourth-seeded Hanover (12-11) was held to just nine points in the opening half and didn’t have any players finish in double figures. Fifth-seeded Pequea Valley (10-13) was led by Megan Stoltzfus’ 16 points.
