By the numbers: A rundown of some impressive stats from York-Adams League quarterbacks

Two of the three division titles have virtually been decided with only one week left in the regular season.

The District 3 playoffs are looming, and most of the teams who will make the postseason all have a similarity — strong quarterback play.

Here’s a rundown of several interesting stats from the York-Adams League’s top signal callers.  

Seven: Littlestown has lost three close games to the other good teams in Division III, but that doesn’t mean the Thunderbolts’ quarterback hasn’t been playing well.

Seven is the number of rushing touchdowns Jakob Lane has this season. He’s also completed 110 of 204 pass attempts for 1,519 yards and 16 touchdowns versus nine interceptions.

Six: This season has been a record-breaking one in the York-Adams League, with Central York’s Cade Pribula and Eastern York’s Trevor Seitz both breaking the previous single-season passing yards record and throwing for more than 30 touchdowns.

With QB play at its peak, there have been six signal callers to throw for 15 touchdowns or more.

Seitz headlines the list with a whopping 31 TDs, while Pribula follows closely with 30. Red Lion’s Zach Mentzer ranks third with 19 TD passes, while Lane and New Oxford’s Brayden Long are tied with 16. York High’s Seth Bernstein rounds out the list with 15.

Five: Red Lion is one win away from a shared D-I title, and the leader of the Lions’ offense has been as efficient as any other league quarterback.

Mentzer has thrown 19 touchdowns to only three interceptions. He has also rushed for four scores.

Five is for the number of touchdowns the senior had last week in the Lions’ 46-21 win over Spring Grove. Mentzer totaled five touchdowns in the win, all of which came from more than 40 yards out. Four touchdowns came through the air, coming from 49, 45, 47 and 69 yards out. His rushing score was a 46-yard scamper.

Four: Mentzer is one of four Y-A starting signal callers to have more than 250 rushing yards on the season, a feat that is tough with sacks counting against rushing totals in high school.

Dallastown’s Jordan Cook easily ranks first with 849 yards on 127 carries. Mentzer is second with 403 yards, and Lane is third with 296. Pribula rounds out the list with 275 rushing yards.

There are technically five quarterbacks who have totaled more than 250 rushing yards, with Red Lion backup quarterback Nic Shultz tallying 279 yards on 52 carries.

Three: Hanover pulled off a one-point win over Biglerville last week, with Jeff Jacoby leading the way under center.

Three is the number of second-quarter touchdowns Jacoby tossed in the victory. Jacoby threw for 238 yards in the Nighthawks’ win.

Eastern York quarterback Trevor Seitz has consecutive 400-yard-plus passing games.

Two: This entire article could be about Eastern’s junior quarterback, but this stat is one of the most impressive all season.

Seitz is the only Y-A quarterback to top 400 yards in a game this season. Last Friday, he eclipsed the mark for the second straight game. He threw for 497 yards two weeks ago and 436 last week.

Seitz is second in the league in passing yards with 2,457, about 300 behind Pribula.

One: While Dallastown’s Cook has only thrown for three touchdowns, he's No. 1 among all quarterbacks in rushing scores with 14.

Cook and star running back Nyzair Smith have combined for 38 rushing touchdowns this season.

Bermudian’s Chase Dull ranks second behind Cook with nine touchdowns on the ground.

Zero: While Seitz overtook Pribula for the passing touchdown lead, zero York-Adams League players have accounted for more touchdowns this season than the University of Delaware commit.

Pribula has passed for 30 touchdowns and rushed for seven scores for a total of 37. Seitz’s 31 ranks second, and York High’s Dayjure Stewart is third with 28 total touchdowns.
