Following are capsule looks at the York-Adams League Division III football teams:
►Team: Bermudian Springs.
►Coach: Jon DeFoe, 19th season.
►2017 Record: 7-4 overall, 5-2 in Division III.
►Key returners: Chase Dull, QB/LB; Chase Wood, WR/CB; Kolt Byers, WR/DB; Carter King, C/DL; Nate McCollum, OL/DL.
►2018 schedule: Aug. 24, New Oxford; Aug. 31, Boiling Springs; Sept. 7, at Shippensburg; Sept. 14, at Hanover; Sept. 21, Fairfield; Sept. 28, at York Catholic; Oct. 5, Delone Catholic; Oct. 13, at York Tech; Oct. 19, Littlestown; Oct. 26, at Biglerville.
►Outlook: The Eagles perennially are near the top of the division standings and this year doesn't figure to be any different. With Chase Dull, a four-year starter, back at quarterback, Bermudian is hoping to continue playing well into November.
►Quotable: "We've finished second in the division the past few years and that is not where we want to be." — DeFoe.
►Coach: Alex Ramos, seventh season.
►2017 Record: 1-9 overall, 1-6 in Division III.
►Key returners: Kalen Sharrah, RB/LB; Sam Hurda, RB/LB; Derek Tosten, QB/WR/DB; Cage Alhoff, QB/DB; Aaron Stremmel, RB/QB/DB.
►2018 schedule: Aug. 24, Big Spring; Aug. 31, Steel-High; Sept. 7, at Kennard-Dale; Sept. 14, at Fairfield; Sept. 21, York Catholic; Sept. 28, at Delone Catholic; Oct. 5, York Tech; Oct. 12, at Littlestown; Oct. 19, at Hanover; Oct. 26, Bermudian Springs.
►Outlook: The Canners could be the sleeper team in D-III this year. After taking some lumps the previous two seasons — 0-10 in 2016 and 1-9 in 2017 — Biglerville is hungry to make some noise.
►Quotable: "We're still going to be young because we had four freshmen and four sophomores play key minutes for us last year. But we did feel like we really gained some experience from that and that should help us out." — Ramos.
►Team: Delone Catholic.
►Coach: Corey Zortman, third season.
►2017 Record: 8-2 overall, 5-2 in Division III.
►Key returners: Evan Brady, QB/DB; Tyler Monto, RB/LB; Zach Groft, OL/DL; Marcello Malvone, WR/K; Joe Hernandez, RB/LB.
►2018 schedule: Aug. 24, at Trinty; Aug. 31, York Suburban; Sept. 7, at Steel-High; Sept. 14, York Tech; Sept. 21, at Littlestown; Sept. 28, Biglerville; Oct. 5, at Bermudian Springs; Oct. 12, Fairfield; Oct. 19, at York Catholic; Oct. 26, Hanover.
►Outlook: The Squires missed out on the District 3 2-A playoffs by the slimmest of margins a season ago. The disappointment of watching rival York Catholic, a team Delone defeated in the regular season, play for a District 3 title only added fuel to the fire.
►Quotable: "We return some of our key guys on both sides of the ball. We did lose a couple of key players in Ryan Hart and Zach Schussler, but I feel like we have talented athletes that can step in." — Zortman.
►Coach: Jason Thurston, first season.
►2017 Record: 4-7 overall, 2-5 in Division III.
►Key returners: Zach Koons, QB/CB; Joey Quealy, WR/S; Ethan Favorite, RB/LB; Garrett Stadler, RB/LB.
►2018 schedule: Aug. 24, Penns Valley; Aug. 31, at St. Joe's Academy; Sept. 7, at James Buchanan; Sept. 14, Biglerville; Sept. 21, at Bermudian Springs; Sept. 28, Hanover; Oct. 5, York Catholic; Oct. 12, at Delone Catholic; Oct. 19, York Tech; Oct. 26, at Littlestown.
►Outlook: The best word to describe the feelings for the Green Knights this season is thankfulness. After nearly having their season wiped out by a player shortage, even a handful of victories would be icing on top of their cake this year.
►Quotable: "We are very excited that the decision to field either a varsity or JV squad is behind us. Now we can just focus on football." — Thurston.
►Coach: Brandon Bishop, first season.
►2017 Record: 5-5 overall, 3-4 in Division III.
►Key returners: Jeff Jacoby, QB/CB; Hunter Laughman, OL/DL; Josh Postell, WR/CB; Sam Duvall, WR/LB.
►2018 schedule: Aug. 24, Susquehannock; Aug. 31, at Eastern York; Sept. 7, Greencastle-Antrim; Sept. 14, Bermudian Springs; Sept. 22, at York Tech; Sept. 28, at Fairfield; Oct. 5, Littlestown, Oct. 12, at York Catholic; Oct. 19, Biglerville; Oct. 26, at Delone Catholic.
►Outlook: After losing one of the league's best all-around backs in Justin Barnes, the Nighthawks will look for Jacoby and others to step up and help the team make some big plays this season.
►Quotable: "The transition has been pretty smooth because I've been here at Hanover for the past eight years, the last five of which have been with the varsity. And fortunately we were able to carry over most of the coaching staff from last year and previous years." — Bishop.
►Coach: Mike Lippy, 15th season.
►2017 Record: 9-2 overall, 6-1 in Division III (division co-champ).
►Key returners: Jakob Lane, QB; Malachi Fodor, OL/DL; Dylan Morey; RB/LB; Jacob Thomas, WR/CB; Heath Reynolds, WR/CB; Corbin Brown, RB/LB.
►2018 schedule: Aug. 24, Boiling Springs; Aug. 31, Susquehannock; Sept. 7, at Eastern York; Sept. 14, at York Catholic; Sept. 21, Delone Catholic; Sept. 29, at York Tech; Oct. 5, at Hanover; Oct. 12, Biglerville; Oct. 19, at Bermudian Springs; Oct. 26, Fairfield.
►Outlook: The Thunderbolts were less than two minutes away from pulling off a thrilling upset in the District 3 3-A semifinals a season ago against Wyomissing. Like Bermudian Springs and Delone, Littlestown is hoping to build on another successful season, with the goal of playing for a district title this year.
►Quotable: "I feel real positive heading into the season. The one area that I think we need to work on is with our conditioning." — Lippy.
►Team: York Catholic.
►Coach: Eric DePew, eighth season.
►2017 Record: 8-3 overall, 6-1 in Division III (division co-champ).
►Key returners: Drew Snelbaker, RB/LB; Jarred Kohl, OL/DL; Wes Burns, QB/WR/DB; Cole Witman, RB/LB; Mitch Galentine, QB.
►2018 schedule: Aug. 24, at York Suburban; Aug. 31, at Trinity; Sept. 7, at Susquehannock; Sept. 14, Littlestown; Sept. 21, at Biglerville; Sept. 28, Bermudian Springs; Oct. 5, at Fairfield; Oct. 12, Hanover; Oct. 19, Delone Catholic; Oct. 26, York Tech.
►Outlook: The Irish will have their hands full if they want to make a run to the district title game for a sixth year in a row. The good news is that York Catholic will have some talented athletes to rely on in Snelbaker, Witman and Burns.
►Quotable: "I feel that our defense really sets the tone at the beginning of the game. When we have a lot of energy we can kick the crap out of anyone." — Kohl.
►Team: York Tech.
►Coach: Charlie Troxell, fifth season.
►2017 Record: 0-10 overall, 0-7 in Division III.
►Key returners: Terence Romey, QB/WR/DB; Michael Rodriguez, RB/LB.
►2018 schedule: Aug. 24, at James Buchanan; Aug. 31, at West Perry; Sept. 7, at Schuylkill Valley; Sept. 14, at Delone Catholic; Sept. 22, Hanover; Sept 29, Littlestown; Oct. 5, at Biglerville; Oct. 13, Bermudian Springs; Oct. 19, at Fairfield; Oct. 26, at York Catholic; Nov. 3, Kennard-Dale.
►Outlook: After a winless campaign a season ago, the Spartans are hoping to have a rebound season this fall. Troxell is feeling positive about his squad, especially after attending their first-ever team camp under Troxell at Albright College this summer.
►Quotable: "What I saw from our kids on the first day of team camp, you talk about being excited about where we're going, that really clinched it for me. They did great. They really did." — Troxell.
