This is the ninth installment of our daily preview capsules leading up to the start of the York-Adams League high school football season on Friday, Sept. 2.

Gettysburg Warriors

Team: Gettysburg Warriors.

Coach: Matt Heiser, fourth year.

2015 record: 1-9 overall, 0-6 York-Adams Division II.

Key losses (2015 Division II All-Stars in bold): Tyler Wilt, quarterback and linebacker; Elijah Johnson, running back and defensive back; Jonathan McKenna, offensive guard and defensive tackle, Chet Brockett, defensive end. Pat Heidecker, tight end and defensive end; Tyler Caskey, offensive/defensive line.

Key returners: Edny Celius, senior, running back and defensive back; Josh Clapsaddle, senior, quarterback and safety; Ravaughn Dillard, senior, wide receiver and safety.

2016 schedule (Division II games in bold): Sept. 2, at South Western (7 p.m.); Sept. 9, vs. New Oxford (7 p.m.); Sept. 16, at Waynesboro (7 p.m.); Sept. 23, at Dover (7 p.m.); Sept. 30, vs. Susquehannock (7 p.m.); Oct. 7, vs. Eastern York (7 p.m.); Oct. 14, at Kennard-Dale (7 p.m.); Oct. 21, vs. Daniel Boone (7 p.m.); Oct. 28, at York Suburban (7 p.m.); Nov. 4, vs. West York (7 p.m.).

Outlook: Matt Heiser’s squad is looking to rebound after suffering through a 1-9 record in 2015. That marked the first down year in Heiser’s three-year tenure in Gettysburg.

In order to make the fourth season a success, the Warriors will look to returning players such as Edny Celius, Josh Clapsaddle and Ravaughn Dillard to lead the offense.

That side of the ball saw quarterback Tyler Wilt and all-start tight end Pat Heidecker leave to graduation.

The good news for Gettyburg is that it didn’t experience nearly the exodus it did after the 2014 season. The result is a number of experienced players returning this year.

It won’t be the easiest of starts for the Warriors. They take on two teams from York-Adams Division I back-to-back, with an opener at South Western before playing host to New Oxford in Week 2.

They also start the season with three of their first four games on the road.

Divisional play for Gettysburg gets started Week 4 with a trip to Dover.

Quotable: “I’ve got a lot of guys coming back this year. It’s going to be a great team effort coming into (this) season. I think the experience and things they went through last year will help them coming into this year.” — Heiser.
