Outlook: Gettysburg had 18 all-stars in 2014, a major reason why the team went 8-3 and finished second in Division II in its first year in the York-Adams League.
It'll also be a major reason why 2015 could be a down year for the Warriors. Very few of those all-stars are returning this year, meaning that Heiser could have his first year of regression in three seasons at Gettysburg.
The Warriors' leading passer (Myers), leading rushers (Laudeman and Sherman), leading receiver (Wansel) and leading defensive lineman (Almanza-Alvarado) all graduated. Now, it'll be up to new quarterback Wilt, running back Johnson and defensive end Brockett to fill those gaps.
Right out of the gates, Gettysburg will get a test, when South Western pays it a visit in a rematch of last year's 44-41 thriller that the Warriors won. But, aside from the Mustangs looking to avenge last year's home defeat, they'll also be coming in as the favorite to win Division I, and surely a great test for new-look Gettysburg.
Coach speak: "Each year is a different chapter, but we did have a lot of seniors that left last year that helped these guys along the way. So, when it goes through the whole scheme of things, we did lose a lot of guys in some spots where there's gonna be new guys stepping up to the plate. But, the guys that are stepping to the plate got reps last year on Friday nights and at the same time did very well in the JV games on Mondays. Confidence is very high and we'll be ready to go." — Heiser.
