Outlook: This will be the fifth time in eight seasons that Susquehannock will go into a football season with a new coach. However, this time it'll do so with a very experienced and successful coach on the sidelines in Steve Wiles. In Wiles' previous two stops as head coach at Delone Catholic and Hanover, he had success and that's what the Warriors are hoping he brings to their program.
Fresh off a one-win season in 2014, in which the team's only victory was a narrow 10-9 defeat of Kennard-Dale, Susquehannock brings back a strong group of core players from last year's team. While last season's record may not be a good indicator, many of those players could make an impact on both sides of the ball for the Warriors in 2015. Of the team's six all-stars from a year ago, four return, including starting quarterback Josh Stoneberg and starting wide receiver and defensive back Dorian Faster. Along with those two, both the offensive and defensive lines should be improved, with Alex Wiencek, R.J. Myers and Nick Chamberlain all coming back.
And Susquehannock will need that experienced group to step up big this year because its schedule isn't doing it any favors. An imbalanced home and away slate sees the Warriors playing six road games to only four home games. After beginning the year at home against Northern York, Susquehannock will then hit the road for three straight weeks and five of the next six. Look for this to be an improved team from last year and win more than one game, but the playoffs still seem like a long shot.
Coach speak: "We've been in the weight room in the spring and the beginning of the summer and we've got a good core group of guys that are committed to that. A few stragglers here or there, but we're trying to build on that and I think we're off to a good start." — First-year coach Steve Wiles on his players having a strong offseason.
