Greg Bowman was announced as the new head coach for the Northern York football team Tuesday, replacing former head coach Garrett Mowery, and it seems as though he is more than ready to take the reins in his new position.
"It is truly an honor and a blessing to have been named the next head football coach at Northern High School," Bowman said via email. "I am extremely grateful to Dr. Eric Eshbach, Superintendent, and Mr. Gerald Schwille, director of athletics, for granting me my first opportunity to serve as a head football coach, and for entrusting me with the enormous responsibility of leading the Northern Football Program.
"As a rookie head coach, I will be faced with many challenges — yet I'm confident in my ability to overcome all of them because of the coaching knowledge and experience I've amassed over the past seven years."
Bowman spent the past three seasons coaching the offensive and defensive lines for Lower Dauphin. He played defensive end for Columbia University and tight end for Exeter Township.
Northern finished 3-7 overall last season and 2-4 in the Mid-Penn Colonial Division.
In two years as Northern's coach, Mowery had a record of 6-14. The Northern school board opened up the head coaching position in March.
