Hallam's Kelsey Felix, Lewisberry's Rachel Apa earn national honors from USA Field Hockey

It looks like it will be a busy summer for two York County girls, who earned a pair of national honors from USA Field Hockey this week.

Hallam's Kelsey Felix and Lewisberry's Rachel Apa were each recognized.

Felix and Apa were among 57 athletes invited to participate at the 2018 Under-17 Junior National Camp. That event is regarded as the premier camp for Futures athletes in the United States. They were each selected based on their performances at the recent Citi National Futures Championship at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, which is the home of the USA Field Hockey.

The Junior National Camp is slated for July 5-8, also at Spooky Nook.

Based on their efforts at the Junior National Camp, Felix and Apa may earn selection to a December training camp, where the final selections will be made for the USA U-17 and U-19 Women's National Field Hockey Teams.

In addition, Felix and Apa were also selected to play in the 2018 Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic Games, which will take place at the University of Iowa from July 29 through Aug. 2.

A total of 134 athletes were chosen to compete in that event. They were also selected based on their performances at the Citi National Futures Championship.

Felix is rated among the top 50 field hockey recruits in the nation for the class of 2021 by Max Field Hockey as a goalie. She was also a York-Adams League Division III First-Team Coaches' All-Star in 2017 for Eastern York High School.

Apa is on the 2020 Watch List by Max Field Hockey as a forward. She was a 2017 Mid-Penn Conference Keystone Division First-Team Coaches' All-Star for Red Land High School.
