FIELD HOCKEY: York County teams from York-Adams League struggle in District 3 openers
Wednesday was not a good night for the York County field hockey teams hailing from the York-Adams League.
All five county teams from the local league suffered District 3 first-round losses.
In Class 3-A, No. 10 seed Central York dropped a 7-0 setback vs. No. 7 seed Lower Dauphin in Mechanicsburg. The Panthers finished at 13-7-1, while Lower Dauphin improved to 14-4-1.
In Class 2-A, No. 9 seed Susquehannock put up a good fight against No. 8 seed Lampeter-Strasburg before falling 2-1 at Milton Hershey. The Warriors finished 11-7, while L-S moved to 14-6.
Also in 2-A, in a battle Y-A Division I foes, No. 5 seed New Oxford upended No. 12 seed South Western, 3-1, at York Suburban. The Mustangs' season ends at 10-10-1. The Colonials improved to 16-2-2 and will meet No. 4 seed Berks Catholic on Saturday at a site and time to be determined. Berks Catholic topped No. 13 seed Milton Hershey on Wednesday, 2-1.
Also at Suburban on Wednesday, in Class 1-A, No. 12 seed Littlestown edged past Y-A foe Hanover in overtime, 2-1. No, 5 seed Hanover sees its season end at 16-3-1. Littlestown improved to 12-8 and will face No. 4 seed Greenwood (16-4) on Saturday at a site and time to be determined. Greenwood won its first-round game Wednesday over No. 13 seed Susquenita, 7-1.
Also in 1-A, No. 14 seed Kennard-Dale lost to No. 3 seed Tulpehocken at Lower Dauphin, 6-0. K-D's season ends at 9-8. Tulpehocken improved to 17-3.
