FIELD HOCKEY: Gettysburg wins in OT, earns state berth
- Gettysburg beat Northern 1-0 in double overtime on Wednesday in a District 3 Class 2-A consolation.
- With the win, the Warriors earned a berth into the PIAA Class 2-A state playoffs.
- Elena Montenegro provided the game's only scoring for Gettysburg.
HUMMELSTOWN —Elena Montenegro scored in the second overtime period to lead Gettysburg to a 1-0 victory over Northern York in a District 3 Class 2-A field hockey consolation contest at Lower Dauphin on Wednesday.
The victory assured fifth-seeded Gettysburg (17-3-1) of a berth in the PIAA Class 2-A state playoffs.
The Warriors will now face 11th-seeded Lampeter-Strasburg (13-7) in the District 3 Class 2-A fifth-place game at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lower Dauphin Middle School. Ninth-seeded Northern finished at 11-5-5.
Lampeter-Strasburg punched its ticket into the state playoffs by knocking off second-seeded New Oxford on Wednesday, 3-2. That game was also played at Lower Dauphin.
Lampeter-Stasburg's Laura Horner scored off a corner as time expired.
The Colonials finished at 15-4. Kaelyn Long had both of New Oxford's goals.
In other District 3 action at Lower Dauphin, third-seeded Bermudian Springs fell to seventh-seeded Newport, 2-1, in a District 3 Class 1-A consolation.
Bermudian finished at 18-4. Newport improved to 16-5. Newport scored with 1:36 left to earn the victory.
