York-Adams League coaches honor top cross country runners from 2020 season

  • Margaret Carroll and Cole Perry were honored as the top York-Adams Division I runners.
  • Brooke Sargen and Cole Adams were recognized in Division II.
  • Moseley Driscoll, Julia O'Brien and Honey Strosnider were recognized from Division III.

Northeastern’s Margaret Carroll is one of the most decorated athletes in York-Adams League cross country history.

Now, the Bobcats senior standout has another honor to add to her long list of accomplishments.

Carroll was selected by the coaches as the 2020 Y-A Division I Girls’ Runner of the Year.

The other female athletes recognized as the divisional runners of the year were:  York Suburban’s Brooke Sargen in D-II and Delone Catholic’s Julia O’Brien and Fairfield’s Honey Strosnider, who shared the honor in D-III.

The male runners named the best in their respective divisions were Northeastern’s Cole Perry in D-I, York Suburban’s Cole Adams in D-II and York Catholic’s Moseley Driscoll in D-III.

The coaches also named all-star teams in each of the divisions.

Northeastern runner survives heat, finishes 3rd in state 3-A girls' cross-country meet

Northeastern's Carroll, York Suburban's Adams repeat as York-Adams cross country champs

Carroll repeated as the overall Y-A girls’ champion and also won the District 3 Class 3-A girls’ title before finishing third in the state 3-A girls’ run.

Sargen ended her senior season at Suburban finishing third in the Y-A run, 11th in the district 3-A event and 26th in the 3-A state meet.

O’Brien, a senior at Delone, was 20th in the 1-A state run, fourth in the district 1-A meet and 16th in the Y-A run.

Strosnider, a senior at Fairfield, beat O’Brien during the regular season and also set a course record at Littlestown.

On the boys’ side, Adams also repeated as the overall Y-A champion before finishing fifth in the district 3-A meet and seventh in the state 3-A event. He’s a junior at Suburban.

Perry, a junior at Northeastern, took third in the Y-A run, seventh in the district 3-A event and 15th in the state 3-A meet.

Driscoll, a junior at York Catholic, was 14th in the Y-A run, fourth in the district 1-A event and 26th in the state 1-A meet.

Coaches also honored: The coaches also selected divisional coaches of the year.

Bruce Lee won the D-I boys’ honor after leading South Western to the D-I crown at 6-0. The Mustangs repeated as division champions. Kennard-Dale’s Mike Twigg captured the D-II boys’ award after guiding the Rams to the D-II championship at 6-0. K-D also won the overall Y-A boys' team title. York Catholic’s Jeff Alloway took the D-III boys’ honor after his Fighting Irish won the D-III title at 6-0.

Northeastern’s Greg Cauller won the D-I girls’ coaching honor after leading the Bobcats a second consecutive D-I crown at 6-0. The Bobcats also took the overall Y-A girls’ team championship. Gettysburg’s Michael Beegle was named the top girls’ coach in D-II after his Warriors went 6-0 en route to repeating as division champions. Alloway also swept the D-III coaching honors after his York Catholic girls won the division at 6-0.
