Northeastern's Margaret Carroll wins girls' title at cross country meet in Indiana

Margaret Carroll

Northeastern High School cross country standout Margaret Carroll traveled to Indiana over the weekend to compete against some top young runners from across the nation.

The Bobcats senior returned to Pennsylvania as a champion.

Competing in the XC Town USA Meet of Champions in Terre Haute, Carroll finished with the top time in the Open Race. She finished in 18 minutes, 20.1 seconds.

Carroll’s Northeastern’s teammate, Marissa Pritchett, took 15th in 19:31.2. In an event that featured more than 230 female runners, Northeastern’s Bella Treglia was 51st in 20:16.3 and Trinity Schraudner was 80th in 20:46.6. They helped the Northeastern team, listed as Bobcat TC-PA, finish third in the Open Race, behind two squads from Illinois.

Winning championships is nothing new for Carroll. She recently won her second consecutive York-Adams League title, won the District 3 Class 3-A championship and finished third in the PIAA 3-A state run.

In boys’ Open Race action in Terre Haute, the top local finisher was Northeastern’s Cole Perry in 18th with a time of 16:32.7.

Kennard-Dale’s Garrett Quinan was 22nd in 16:36.3, while Quinan’s teammate, Dan Gibney, was 27th in 16:39.5. Another K-D runner, Dylan Cunningham finished 65th in 17:05.4. The boys’ field featured nearly 300 runners.

Led by Quinan, Gibney and Cunningham, the KD Rams TC-PA boys’ team finished 11th in the Open Race. A team from California won the boys’ team Open Race competition. Indiana runner Spencer Carpenter won the boys’ individual Open Race in 15:59.9.

The Northeastern girls and the K-D boys were the York-Adams team champions in 2020.
