CROSS COUNTRY: York-Adams League teams sew up division championships over weekend

  • York Catholic won both the D-III boys' and girls' cross country crowns.

The Kennard-Dale boys have earned their first cross country championship since 2004.

The Northeastern girls repeated their title effort from a season ago.

And York Catholic earned a pair of crowns.

Those were the highlights from the weekend York-Adams League cross country action.

The K-D boys earned a 24-31 victory over Gettysburg to win the Division II crown at 6-0. Gettysburg fell to 3-2. The Rams' last boys' cross country crown came in in 2004 in the Y-A East Division.

K-D's Collin Wolf won Saturday's race in 17 minutes, 1 second, while teammate Garrett Quinan was second. Gettysburg's Drew Cole was third and Jacob Bordotto was fourth. K-D's Dan Gibney was fifth.

The Northeastern girls successfully defended their D-I championship with a 15-46 victory over Central York to finish at 6-0 in the division. The Bobcats swept the top five spots in the race, led by Margaret Carroll in 18:27. She was followed by Bella Treglia, Marissa Pritchett, Hannah Herr and Trinity Schraudner.

The York Catholic boys and girls earned D-III crowns on Friday when each team earned a pair of 15-50 victories in a tri-meet vs. York Tech and Littlestown. Both York Catholic teams finished at 6-0.

York Catholic's Mosley Driscoll won the boys' race in 17:08, followed by Tech's Sean Smith. York Catholic runners took third (Joseph Rizzuto), fourth (John Marinelli) and fifth (Jonathan Stromberg). The Irish took the top four spots in the girls' race, paced by Gabrielle Tully (21:28), followed by Madelyn McKee, Magdalene Motter and Aleya Miller.

On Thursday, South Western wrapped up the D-I boys' title with a 6-0 mark by beating Dover, 16-46. Shernel Singh was first in 17:15. Also for South Western, Shernan Singh took second, Evan Freil took third and Austin Tyler took fourth.

The D-II girls' title will be determined on Tuesday when Susquehannock is at Gettysburg. Gettysburg is 5-0 in the division, while Susquehannock is 4-1. Gettysburg has already clinched at least a share of the title.

On Saturday, Gettysburg beat Kennard-Dale, 22-36, while York Suburban handed Susquehannock its first loss, 26-32. 

In the Suburban girls' victory, the Trojans' Brooke Sargen set the course record at Susquehannock in 20:08, just 15 minutes after competing in a Suburban soccer game. She was followed by Nicole Dauberman and Sabreena Fahringer from Susquehannock. Suburban's Sarah Stark was fourth and Susquehannock's Abigail Fisher was fifth.

In the Gettysburg girls' win vs. K-D, the Warriors' Winter Oaster won the race in 20:34. K-D's Angelina Hammond was second, followed by Gettysburg's Marrin Crist, K-D's Charlotte Crowl and Gettysburg's Megan Hurst.

The York-Adams League Cross Country Championship Run is set for Saturday at Gettysburg.
