York County runners put up record-breaking times in Saturday cross country action
- Kennard-Dale edged York Suburban in a key boys' cross country meet on Saturday, 26-27.
- The first six runners in that race broke the previous K-D course record of 17:15.
- Suburban's Cole Adams won the race in 16:30.
York County runners put up some record-breaking times on Saturday in cross country action.
In a meet that will likely determine the York-Adams League Division II boys’ championship, Kennard-Dale edged York Suburban, 26-29, at Fawn Grove.
The top six runners in the event all broke the previous course record of 17 minutes, 15 seconds, set back in 2012.
Suburban’s Cole Adams won the race in 16:30, followed by Kennard-Dale’s Garrett Quinan and Suburban’s Grant Kern in 16:36. The next three runners were from K-D: Dan Gibney in 16:37, Collin Wolf in 17:12 and Dylan Cunningham in 17:13.
Coming into the race, K-D and Suburban were the only two unbeaten teams left in D-II. The Rams are now 4-0, while Suburban is 2-1. Suburban has won past eight D-II boys’ crowns. K-D, meanwhile, is looking for its first boys’ cross country crown since taking the East Division title in 2004.
In the girls’ meet, Suburban beat K-D 22-38 behind a first-place finish from Brooke Sargen in 20:18.
In other cross country action from Saturday:
Two Northeastern runners set course records at home against South Western. Margaret Carroll won the girls’ race in 17:31, while Cole Perry took the boys’ race in 15:59. The first-place Northeastern girls won the team event, 16-47, to improve to 4-0 in D-I. South Western won the boys’ race, 22-37, to also remain in first place in D-I at 4-0.

Central York edged Dallastown in boys’ action, 26-31, while Dallastown took the girls’ meet, 17-46. Dallastown’s Lydia Tolerico won the girls’ race in 19:39, while Dallastown’s Jacob Rager took the boys’ race in 16:51.
West York nipped New Oxford in a boys’ contest, 27-28, while New Oxford rolled in the girls’ race, 15-50. The individual winners were West York’s Thomas Urrunaga in 17:00 and New Oxford’s Isabella Kraus in 22:27.
