The Central York boys and the Dallastown girls claimed York-Adams Division I cross country championships on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
In a meet at Spring Grove, the Panthers claimed a 26-31 boys' victory over the Wildcats in a meeting of previously unbeaten teams. Central also easily beat Spring Grove (17-42) and Red Lion (16-43) to finish at 6-0 in division action. Central finished 5-1 in the division by also beating Spring Grove and Red Lion. The Rockets nipped the Lions in the boys' contest, 27-28.
In the girls' meet, Dallastown defeated Central, 19-42, in another meeting of previously unbeaten teams. The Wildcats also cruised past Spring Grove (forfeit) and Red Lion (15-50) to complete a 6-0 division season. Central also beat the Rockets and Lions to finish 5-1 in the division. Red Lion also took a forfeit win over Spring Grove.
Dallastown's Bryce Gable won the boys' race in 17 minutes, 14 seconds, followed by three Central runners: Timmy Buzynski (17:34), Austin McQuaide (17:38) and Jacob Montgomery (17:49). Spring Grove's Jack Warehime was fifth in 17:58.
Emily Schuler (19:44) and Alison Myers (21:03) took the top two spots in the girls' race for Dallastown. Central's Kendall Smith was third in 21:18, followed by Dallastown's Helen Zardus (21:28) and Lydia Fimmano (21:43).
Brininger leads Squires to title: At York Township Park, Adler Brininger led the Squires to the first-place team finish by taking first individually in 17:41. The Squires defeated York Tech, York Catholic, Fairfield and Biglerville to claim the York-Adams Division III crown with an unbeaten division record. It's Delone's third division crown in five years. Delone's Gabe Hall took third. The Irish came in second in the meet. Christian Gervasi led the Irish individually with a second-place finish, while Evan Schlosser took fourth and Joe Rizzuto came in fifth. The Green Knights came in third as a team, followed by the Spartans and Canners.
Irish capture Division III crown: At York Township Park, the Irish defeated Delone Catholic, Fairfield, Biglerville and York Tech to captured the York-Adams Division III championship. It was Delone's first divisional loss since 2011. Katie MacDougall led the Irish individually with a second-place finish. Teammate Rachel Kordaz took fifth. The Squirettes came in second as a team. Leanne Sneeringer led the Squirettes with a first-place finish in 19:39. The Green Knights took third. Lindsey Lytle led the Knights with a third-place finish. York Tech and Biglerville forfeited against each other in the team competition. Individually for the Spartans, Julia Atkins took fourth.
Gettysburg takes first place on home course: At Gettysburg, the Warriors took first by defeating Littlestown, Eastern York and Bermudian Springs. Individually for the Warriors, Kelty Oaster took third, Megan Yingling took fourth and Elizabeth Balas took fifth. The Eagles came in second, followed by Eastern and Littlestown. Maddie McLain led the Golden Knights individually by taking first in 19:33. Teammate Olivia McLain took second.
