The Central York boys' volleyball team won the State College Invitational on Saturday, beating two of the top teams in the state en route to the title.

The Panthers rallied past Hempfield in the title match, 19-25, 25-23, 17-15.

Hempfield came into that match ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 3-A by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association. Central was No. 4 in that same poll.

In the semifinals, Central beat York-Adams League rival Northeastern, 31-29.

Northeastern had earlier beaten Central in pool play, 25-19, 25-18.

Northeastern entered the weekend ranked No. 1 in the state in 2-A by the PVCA.

It marked the first time the Bobcats failed to win a tournament it had entered this season. Northeastern had previously won the Cambridge Classic, the Bobcat Invitational and the Koller Classic.

Both Central and Northeastern are unbeaten in York-Adams League action at 7-0. They are scheduled to face off in the regular-season finale on Thursday, May 10, at Northeastern.
