Panthers, Bobcats No. 1 in state but No. 2 in district


Central York and Northeastern are ranked No. 1 in the state in their respective classes by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association.

In District 3, however, the Panthers and Bobcats are each seeded No. 2.

The district seedings and pairings were released on Sunday. The seeds were based on power ratings.

Central Dauphin (12-1-0) got the No. 1 district seed over Central York (12-0-0) in Class 3-A. In the PVCA 3-A state poll, Central York is No. 1 and Central Dauphin is No. 2.

In the district 2-A playoffs, Northeastern (13-1-0) is No. 2 behind No. 1 Manheim Central (16-0-0). Those two teams are flipped in the PVCA 2-A state poll.

The other York-Adams League schools in the 3-A district field is Dallastown (13-3) at No. 6. Wildcats face No. 11 Gov. Mifflin (12-5) at 6 p.m. Thursday in the first round at Lower Dauphin. Dallastown is ranked No. 7 in the state. Central York gets a first-round bye and will play host to a quarterfinal match at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 22. The Panthers will face the winner of Thursday's first-round game between No. 7 Cumberland Valley (11-3) and No. 10 Chambersburg (11-5).

In 2-A, No. 7 Spring Grove (9-8) will play host to No. 10 West York (7-8) in a first-round match at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The winner of that match will travel to Northeastern for a quarterfinal contest at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 22. York Suburban (9-5) is seeded No. 5 in 2-A and will get a first-round bye. In the quarterfinals, Suburban meets No. 4 Lancaster Mennonite (10-5) at 6 p.m. Monday, May 22, at Manheim Central. Suburban is ranked No. 5 in the state.
