Six Northeastern boys are all-state in volleyball

  • Reese Devilbiss was named all-state for a fourth straight season.
  • Brandon Arentz made the all-state list for a third time.
  • Chris Lee, Jeff Reynolds and Matt Schaeffer are all-state picks for a second straight year.

The Northeastern boys' volleyball program has achieved almost legendary status within the state of Pennsylvania over the past few years.

Reese Devilbiss leaves Northeastern as a four-time all-state selection.

The Bobcats recently captured their fourth straight PIAA Class AA state championship.

They finished the 2016 season at 23-0 and were ranked No. 1 in Pennsylvania and No. 4 in the nation by

Now the Bobcats have added yet another honor.

Their entire starting lineup has been named to the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AA All-State Team.

Reese Devilbiss earned his fourth straight all-state selection, while Brandon Arentz captured his third all-state honor. Chris Lee, Jeff Reynolds and Matt Schaeffer are now two-time all-state picks, while Dakoda Hoffman picked up his first all-state recognition.

Lee is the only junior in the group, while the other five have graduated.

Devilbiss, 6-foot, 3-inch outside hitter, leaves Northeastern as possibly the most decorated volleyball player in York County history. He is set to play for national champion Ohio State and just finished off a stint with the Team USA under-21 squad, which recently won the title at the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Conference Continental Championship in Canada. That earned the U.S. team a berth in the 2017 World Championships in the Czech Republic.

Northeastern sweeps to fourth straight state crown

Arentz is a 6-2 outside hitter, Hoffman is a 6-4 middle hitter, Lee is a 5-10 libero, Reynolds is a 6-3 middle hitter and Schaeffer is a 6-foot setter.

Three other York County players honored: The Bobcats, however, were not the only York County players earning all-state recognition.

York Suburban had two players selected for the AA team — Kaleb Ansell, a 6-2 senior setter, and Jack Schultz, a 6-4 junior middle hitter.

Suburban finished tied for second in the York-Adams League regular season and finished second, behind Northeastern, in the District 3-AA playoffs. The Trojans also advanced to the state AA semifinals, before again losing to the Bobcats.

A total of 21 players earned all-state honors in AA.

One York County player collected all-state recognition in AAA — Central York's 6-6 senior outside hitter, Hayden Wagner. Wagner, who is set to play at the NCAA Division I level for George Mason, helped the Panthers tie for second in the York-Adams League regular season.

Thirty-one players were named all-state in AAA.

Ansell, Schultz and Wagner were all first-time all-state picks.
