Central York, Northeastern will hit road for state boys' volleyball quarterfinal matches
The Central York and Northeastern boys' volleyball teams each face trips of more than 100 miles on Saturday for their PIAA state quarterfinal contests.
The Panthers, the District 3-AAA champions, will face District 7-AAA runner-up Seneca Valley at 5 p.m. Saturday at Altoona High School. That's a trip of more than 130 miles for Central, while Seneca Valley faces a trip of about 115 miles.
The Bobcats, the District 3-AA champions, will meet District 2-AA runner-up North Pocono at 6 p.m. Saturday at Easton Middle School. Northeastern will travel more than 105 miles, while North Pocono will travel less than 60 miles.
Central York enters Saturday's match ranked No. 4 in the latest Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association AAA rankings, while Seneca Valley is ranked No. 5.
Northeastern is ranked No. 1 in the PVCA AA poll, while North Pocono is not ranked in the top 10.
Both the Panthers and the Bobcats are trying to defend their state championships from a season ago.
