The Dallastown High School boys' tennis team fell one win short of winning a District 3 Class 3-A championship.
The Wildcats fell to Hershey 3-1 on Wednesday in the title match at Racquet Club West in Lancaster.
Dallastown's standout No. 1 singles player, junior Holden Koons, collected the Wildcats' only point with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Dante Falcucci.
The other Wildcats didn't fare quite as well, however, dropping straight-set matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, as well as No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles match was not completed once the outcome of the team match was no longer in doubt. Hershey, however, was also leading that match, as well.
It marked the second time this season that the Wildcats fell to Hershey after dropping a 4-1 verdict on April 12. Koons, the three-time District 3 Class 3-A boys' singles champion, got Dallastown's only point in that match, too.
The second-seeded Wildcats fell to 14-2, while top-seeded Hershey moved to 20-0.
Dallastown was looking for its fifth district title. Hershey, meanwhile, collected its sixth district crown.
Despite the loss, Dallastown will still compete in the PIAA Class 3-A state playoffs. The Wildcats will face the District 6 champion on Tuesday, May 15, at a time and site to be determined.
