Northern York wins first District 3 boys' soccer title behind Ashton Davies' two goals

.

Ashton Davies scored a pair of goals to lift Northern York to the District 3 Class 3-A boys' soccer championship on Tuesday night with a 2-0 win over Fleetwood in Dillsburg.

It's the Polar Bears' first-ever District 3 boys' soccer title in their second straight final appearance. The Bears made the 2019 district championship, the program's first appearance, but lost 3-0 to Lower Dauphin.

Northern (17-0-1) is the lone qualifier for the PIAA Class 3-A state playoffs out of District 3 this year because of the contracted playoff fields during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Polar Bears will play host to District 4 champion Selinsgrove at 1 p.m. Saturday in the quarterfinals. Selinsgrove (17-2) beat District 2 champion Crestwood 4-3 in overtime Tuesday to advance. Crestwood finished 14-1-2.

Davies scored his first goal unassisted in the 35th minute, then added the insurance marker in the 50th minute on an assist from Shepard Soisson.

Joshua Hoffman stopped all eight shots he faced in net, while the No. 3 seed Northern offense produced 19 shots of its own and five corners.

No. 5 seed Fleetwood, which had ousted No. 1 seed Susquehannock in the semifinals, finished at 13-4.
