HERSHEY -- Gettysburg's undefeated boys' soccer season hit a road block on Thursday night when the top-seeded Warriors suffered a surprising 2-1 loss to third-seeded Lancaster Mennonite in the District 3-AA final.
The York-Adams League champion Warriors dropped to 22-1, while Lancaster Mennonite improved to 19-3-1.
Both teams, however, were already assured of PIAA AA state berths. Before the Lancaster Mennonite loss, many had predicted that Gettysburg had the potential to win a state title. On Tuesday, in the first round of the state tournament, Gettysburg will face the District 12-AA champion at a time and site to be determined.
On Thursday, Gettysburg had a 7-5 edge in shots on goal.
After falling behind 2-0, Adam Yingling had Gettysburg's goal, off an assist from Zach Shoemaker. Chase Ross had both Mennonite goals.
Gettysburg goalie Yanni Tassou had three saves. Mennonite's Nate Flanders had six saves.
