Eastern York head coach Jon Reichard was not on the bench for Wednesday night's game vs. Susquehannock.

Assistant coach Mike Wisler served as the Golden Knights' head coach on Wednesday, according to Susquehannock coach John Zerfing.

Phone messages left for Reichard, who has been Eastern's varsity head coach since 2011, and Eastern athletic director Donald Knaub were not immediately returned, so the reason for his absence has been left unexplained.

The Golden Knights lost the game to the Warriors, 45-44, on a last-second shot.

Eastern York, after a fast start, has experienced some tough times of late.

After dropping its second game of the year to Northeastern, the Golden Knights went on to win 10 consecutive games, making it as high as No. 2 in the District 3 4-A power ratings. They also sat atop the York-Adams League Division II standings.

However, during the team's game against York Tech on Monday, Jan. 9, senior leading scorer Jared Achterberg suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, ending his season. Since then, Eastern has lost all three games, including Wednesday night's loss under Wisler.

The Golden Knights still remain tied for the Division II lead with Dover with an 11-4 overall record and a 6-2 mark in division play and is rated fourth in the latest District 3 4-A power ratings.

Eastern York is coming off its best seasons under Reichard, going 22-7 overall, making the District 3 3-A championship game a year ago, finishing as runner-up to Bishop McDevitt and qualifying for the state tournament.

Before the season, Reichard underwent treatment for prostate cancer in October, allowing him to recover in time to get back on the sidelines for the start of the high school season.
