Sites set for York teams in PIAA hoops
- York Catholic will face Holy Redeemer at Hamburg in a District 3-AA girls' basketball game.
- York Country Day will meet Phil-Mont Christrian at Garden Spot in a District 3-A boys' hoops contest.
The two remaining York County teams left in the PIAA state basketball playoffs will have to hit the road on Tuesday for their second-round contests.
Both teams will also face district champions.
The District 3-AA runner-up girls' team from York Catholic (21-6) will take on District 2 champion Holy Redeemer (23-3) at 6 p.m. at Hamburg Area High School in Berks County. The Irish must deal with a 70-mile bus trip, while Holy Redeemer from Wilkes-Barre will have a 61-mile journey.
The District 3-A champion boys' team from York Country Day (23-0) will battle District 1 champion Phil-Mont Christian (25-1) at 6 p.m. at Garden Spot High School in New Holland, Lancaster County. YCD faces a 42-mile trip to Garden Spot, while Phil-Mont Christian, from Glenside in suburban Philadelphia, must travel 53 miles.
Both the YCD boys and York Catholic girls started PIAA play with first-round games Friday night at nearby Dallastown.
York Catholic won its first-round contest over Bodine, the third-place team from District 12, 53-42. Holy Redeemer, meanwhile, routed Southern Columbia, the third-place team from District 4, 55-32. Holy Redeemer was ranked No. 3 in the most recent Pennlive.com Class AA girls' poll, while York Catholic received honorable mention selection.
One result that may not bode well for the Irish is Dunmore's 58-46 victory over District 3-A champion Camp Hill on Friday. Dunmore finished third in District 2, behind Holy Redeemer. Camp Hill, meanwhile, beat York Catholic in the District 3-A title game, 54-40.
YCD is coming off a 51-42 victory over Sullivan County, the third-place team from District 4. Phil-Mont Christian rolled to a 75-53 triumph over Paul Robeson, the third-place team from District 12. In the most recent Pennlive.com Class A boys' state rankings, Phil-Mont Christian was rated No. 8, while YCD received honorable mention notice.
Note: Tickets for the York Catholic-Holy Redeemer game will be on sale in the school's main office on Monday from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for students. No student tickets will be sold at the game site.
