Suburban girls earn state playoff berth
The York Suburban girls' basketball team is headed to the PIAA Class AAA state tournament.
The Trojans punched their ticket to the state playoffs on Tuesday by rallying for a 36-32 triumph over ELCO in a District 3-AAA consolation contest at Manheim Township. It's Suburban's first state playoff berth since 2006. The Trojans trailed by seven points entering the final period, 25-18. Suburban used an 18-7 fourth-quarter run to earn the win.
No. 8 seed Suburban (19-6) will now play in the District 3-AAA fifth-place game on Thursday vs No. 2 seed Northern Lebanon (25-3), which beat No. 3 seed Bishop McDevitt in a consolation game on Tuesday, 46-42. No. 13 seed ELCO fell to 16-9 and will play in the District 3-AAA seventh-place contest vs. McDevitt (18-7).
Olivian Gettle paced Suburban with 11 points. Parker Faircloth-Henise added nine.
OTHER GIRLS' GAME:
Arlington Baptist 35, Red Lion Christian 33: At Arlington, RLC lost for just the fourth time this season, falling to 17-4 overall. Tabitha Garner had 12 points for RLC, while Liz Baker added 10.
Arlington Baptist 46, Red Lion Christian 36: At Arlington, RLC dropped to 15-7 on the season, despite 12 points and 10 rebounds from Tate Pendell. Zach Fahs added 10 points in a losing cause.
Boys' correction: In Tuesday's Dispatch sports section, York Country Day's last appearance in the District 3-A boys' basketball finals was incorrectly reported. YCD last appeared in the District 3-A boys' finals in 2002.
