K-D baseball team falls in District 3 Class 4-A final

DILLSBURG — Kennard-Dale's bid to earn its first District 3 baseball title since 2001 fell short on Thursday evening.

The Rams dropped their District 3 Class 4-A championship battle against East Pennsboro, 6-1, at Northern York High School.

Kennard-Dale pitcher Ben Stewart went 5 2/3 strong innings on Thursday, allowing just one earned run. Stewart won eight games for the Rams on the hill, good enough to earn him Division III Player of the Year recognition from Y-A League coaches.

Despite the loss, the Rams have still qualified for the PIAA Class 4-A state playoffs, which start on Monday. K-D will take on either the District 5 champion or the District 6 champion.

In Thursday's loss, the Rams struggled against East Pennsboro pitcher Chris Horst, who allowed just four hits and struck out nine while allowing one walk.

Ben Stewart had two of K-D's four hits and drove in the Rams' only run.

Stewart also started on the mound, going 5 2/3 innings and allowing just one earned run. He gave up seven hits, while striking out four and walking two. His defense committed three errors behind him, while East Pennsboro played errorless ball.

The sixth-seeded Rams (17-4) were right in the game until late. They trailed 1-0 going into the bottom of sixth when fifth-seeded East Pennsboro (17-4) plated five runs to take a 6-0 lead.

K-D scored once in the top of the seventh, but it wasn't enough.
