The York Tech baseball team earned its first win of the year on Wednesday afternoon, knocking off Columbia, 7-2, at home.
The Spartans (1-1) squandered a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth by allowing the Crimson Tide to score twice to tie the game. But York Tech responded by regaining a one-run lead in the bottom of the fifth and then blew the game open with a four-run bottom of the sixth.
Despite getting outhit 10-8, the Spartans capitalized on seven Columbia errors. Jake Wymard drove in three of York Tech’s seven runs, going 2 for 3 with a double. Nathan Chronister and Luke Greisler also had multi-hit performances, with Chronister driving in a run and Juan Lopez also recording an RBI.
Spring Grove 10, Kennard-Dale 5 (9 innings): At Fawn Grove, the Rockets scored six times in the top of the ninth inning to earn the extra-inning win over the Rams. Spring Grove was up 4-2 in the contest, but squandered the lead, allowing K-D to score the tying run in the bottom of the seventh to force extras. Jonathan Sager earned the win for the Rockets, coming in during the eighth inning.
Bermudian Springs 8, Dover 7: At Dover, Colby Smith's two-out, two-run double in the top of the seventh gave the visitors the lead for good. Teammate Tanner Byers went 2 for 4 with one run scored — the game-winning run in the seventh. For the home team, Zach Altland went 3 for 4, including two RBIs, one run scored and three stolen bases. Also for Dover, Joe Morrett went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and one run scored, while Nate Hamme went 2 for 2 with one run scored.
Cedar Cliff 14, Central York 7: At Central York, the Colts jumped out to a 7-0 lead at the end of the first and went on to capture the non-league victory. Beau Burris led the Panthers offense with a double.
